Casting w/o cursing

August 5th, 2008 · No Comments

I use a very interesting tool called Jott that allows me to convert a simple phone call into emails, text messages, reminders, lists and appointments. I often call the network to leave myself a message when I’m driving to or from work, or am on a lunch break and am away from the computer.

This morning, I left myself the following note regarding this busy week before GenCon:

Things to do today: Start on prep work for the weekend’s accounting, start on the sample book for the booth, start on the organization of inventory to take along, curse like mad.

So, hopefully it is obvious to those of you who know my business that what I said into the phone was “cast like mad”… but I guess that if I’m honest with myself there have been times when casting as much as I do makes me want to curse like mad too. And, of course this may say something interesting about the software that Jott uses to interpret words, and what their typical or common user says into the phone.

I hope you all have a great week, and I look forward to putting names with faces at GenCon. Stop by the Gorilla Games booth (#1702) to say hi if you get a chance.

Children of the Zodiac

March 18th, 2008 · No Comments

HGG friend Rastl (of blog http://rastl.vox.com/ fame) has turned us on to a new line of miniatures coming out from Reaper known as the Children of the Zodiac.

Images of the available miniatures can be seen here: http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder (use the search term: zodiac) Reaper has announced that there will be 12 miniatures released in the set, with the bases of the complete group forming a perfect circle.

In addition to the miniatures, Rastl is currently developing plans for a base to display the entire set built completely of Hirst Arts blocks. Once the design and building instructions are complete, Higher Ground Games will proudly be offering a kit to provide customers with the exact pieces needed to build this display base in one shot.

I will post when more details are available, but keep your eyes on the monthly releases for new minis!

Image / Theme update

January 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

I have edited and uploaded a number of the pictures now showing in an attempt to personalize the theme of this blog.

The basics were really easy to set up, and posting is a snap… however, beyond that I’m pretty stumped for ideas about customizing this blog section(as well as knowledge about how to go about it.) If you are out there reading my blog and would like to give me your criticisms, compliments, and general well wishes please leave me a comment below.

The pictures now in rotation are:

  • O’Brien’s Tower - Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
    • 1
    • A building I made mainly out of the Hirst Arts Small Brick Mold
      •  4
      • A set of my 2-d dungeon floors made out of the Hirst Arts fieldstone floor tile
        • 3
      • A macro shot of some blocks in a recent bulk auction on eBay.
        • 2

        January 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Well, they are not uploaded to basic stock yet but over the last two weeks we’ve managed to procure 5 new molds from Hirst Arts, and will be making the castings of them available shortly!

        The new castings available are:

        • Rock Cavern Root Mold #83
          • 83
        • Rock Cavern Pillar Mold #84
          • 84
        • Skematic Floor Tile Mold#212
          • 212
        • Cavern Floor Mold #281
          • 281
        • Cavern Floor Accessories #282
          • 282

With these, I’m really excited to be able to make a Descent board, and modular caverns as well! I’ve already had a custom order for castings from #212 which will be made into a 10′ (yes, foot) defensible Necron battlement for an upcoming mega-battle in March.

HGG stock in my local game store.

        January 17th, 2008 · No Comments

I am quite pleased to announce that a selection of Higher Ground Games’ products will soon be carried in the Game Preserve, Indianapolis!

This store, found in the fashion mall near Keystone at the Crossing, has a great selection of board games, unique chess sets, and a very complete inventory of most miniature games now available.

In the coming weeks select items from our line of pre-cast Hirst Arts blocks will be available for purchas as single-castings. They’ll be on the back wall in the terrain area, and I can’t wait to see some of the guys in-store put them to use for new builds.

If you live in the Indianapolis area, and have a preference as to which ones you’d like to see available please leave a comment below or email me.

         -Ben

Welcome to the Higher Ground Games Blog!

        January 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Hi! My name is Ben, and I am the owner of Higher Ground Games.

We started the business in 2007 to provide pre-cast Hirst Arts blocks and other terrain products. Most of our business to-date has come from eBay traffic and direct email orders.

Starting in January 2008 we will maintain an active web store, and will keep this blog updated with new product offerings. I also hope to provide a tips&tricks section, sketch-up models and a comprehensive links list to help table-top gamers with sourcing quality products.

If you would like to advertise on this site, trade links and/or banners with me, or contribute in any way… please email me at ben@highergroundgames.com

        Here’s to a great 2008!
